The Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the Federal (Australian Greenhouse Office) Solar Cities initiative which closed on July 18th met with an overwhelming response.
21 consortia in six of the eight states and territories across Australia registered an interest in the programme. The 75 million AUD (58 million USD) fund will support at least four major projects, the focus being grid-connected urban centers.
According to the project timetable, the government appointed expert evaluation panel should complete assessment of the EOIs by the end of September. The panel’s recommendations will guide the Environment and Industry Ministers who have ultimate responsibility for inviting a limited number of consortia to prepare detailed business cases. Short-listed consortia will then have two months to finalize their proposals. Successful bids are expected to be announced during the first quarter of 2006.
