Rural electrification is once again a top priority for the federal government, raising expectations of growth in installed PV capacity over the next few years, as PV presents one of the feasible alternatives for remote and rural power supply. Preliminary studies and proposals for implementation strategies will be completed by mid- 2005.

At the same time, distributed generation is attracting the attention of the national utility as an option for supporting the electrical grid in some areas, and could become an important application in the near future. PV roofs are one of the technologies under consideration.
