Abstract: In this paper the content for a 1-year pre-feasibility study of the Very Large Scale Photovoltaic Power Generation System (VLS-PV) project, which has just started under the umbrella of IEA  PVPS Task 6 was introduced. By the international collaboration among about 10 participating countries, this project discusses various key aspects of VLS-PV, that is, PV technology and system configuration, environmental issues, socio-economic issues, economic and financial issues, and institutional and organizational issues. Based on a result of this 1-year survey, we will compile a plan for follow-up activities and the project is planned to take off as a new task of IEA  PVPS in 1999.
