Lisbon Ideas Challenge is an international design competition aimed at fostering innovative ideas relevant to the development of urban structures integrating photovoltaic systems and technologies. The main novelty compared with earlier initiatives (e.g. IEA PVPS Task 7 Design Competition) is that the ideas should not only have a technological potential but also business potential; the latter should be demonstrated through a business plan.
The ideas may encompass from building-oriented products to marketable whole concept urban structures. The competition is open to individuals or organizations throughout the world, with a special emphasis on students or recently graduated professionals (e.g. degree obtained during last five years). Architects, engineers and designers, with interest in new energy concepts for the built environment, are especially encouraged to enter the competition.
The Lisbon Ideas Challenge concept was launched on the 16th of March 2005 in Lisbon at the IEA PVPS Task 10 workshop “Photovoltaics in Buildings: Opportunities for New Business Ventures”. Candidacies are open from the 1st of July 2005 to the 15th of May 2006. All relevant information will be available at the competition website www.lisbonideaschallenge.com.pt from the 1st of August 2005.

Lisbon Ideas Challenge is an organization of the Centre for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research, IN+, at Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, on behalf of IEA PVPS Task 10. The Portuguese risk capital institution, PME Investimentos, sponsors the competition.
