The Instituto de Energía Solar PV system. On the newly constructed building of the Institute for Solar Energy at the University of Madrid, a PV system is attached to the facade, the tower and the roof terrace. The aim of this project is to aesthetically integrate a PV system on to a university building and to study the practicalities of grid connection. The project has won the award Premio a la Innovacion Technologica from the community of Madrid, in the frame of the awards Quality, Architecture and Dwellings [Copyright: Nuria Martín].

PV, in the facade of the Mataró library in Barcelona, Spain. The facade consists of 108 hybrid photovoltaic-thermal semi-transparent modules. The semi
transparency is obtained by the pattern of the squared polycrystalline cells that leave a gap between two horizontal lines of 1,4 cm, while vertically they are juxtaposed. A transparent glass, 15 cm away from the back side of the PV panel forms a ventilation chamber that takes advantage of the natural convection by creating warm air. During the winter operation, the air is used for preheating in the conventional gas heating system. During the warm season, the air is evacuated to the exterior. [Copyright: Tjerk Reijenga].
