Description

The CESTM building at SUNY Albany combines a Center for Advanced Technology with educational, commercial and research applications in environmental sciences. As such, the objectives, requirements and goals of the building program were to incorporate energy efficient measures and renewable technologies in building and system design as a multi-functional architectural element.

The building features the first US application of facade integrated PV sunshades. The sunshades support 15 kWp of PV while reducing unwanted cooling loads and glare through the vision glass below. The project also features an array of large area PV modules as a glazed canopy in the park area to the south of the building. Both systems are utility interactive and all PV modules feature integral micro inverters.
